He was born on November 4, 1954 in Kharkiv. He graduated from the Faculty of Automation and Telemechanics of the Kharkiv Electromechanical Technical School of Transport Construction and, having served two years in the army, worked as an electrician at the Radiodetal plant. In 1978 he entered the acting faculty of the Kotlyarevsky Kharkiv Institute of Arts. As a third-year student he was enrolled in the troupe of the Kharkiv Academic Drama Theater named after T.G.
