Juan Pablo Villalobos' first novel, The Banquet in the Hole, was shortlisted for the Gaurdian First book award. In 2016, the author received the Herald Award from the Spanish publishing house Anagram for the novel "I Won't Expect Anyone to Believe Me". He was a member of the jury of the prestigious Dublin Literary Prize. Critics attribute the author's work to the genre of so-called drug literature. The novel "Banquet in the Burrow" was translated into Ukrainian by Deinde Publishing House.
