Ukrainian poet, translator, literary critic, public figure. He was in charge of the department of poetry of the editorial office of the magazine «Zhovten» (now «Dzvin»), after moving to Kyiv he worked at the secretariat of the Socialist Party of Ukraine. During 1971-1978 Pavlychko edited the magazine «Vsesvit». Pavlychko is one of the organizers of the People's Movement of Ukraine, the Democratic Party of Ukraine, the first chairman of the Shevchenko Ukrainian Society.
