Publicist, lawyer, economist. In the early 1980s, he was a samizdat journalist and activist for the independent trade union Solidarność. He was the editor-in-chief of one of the most influential daily newspapers in Poland, Rzeczpospolita, and headed the Book Institute in Krakow.
