On-site review, or What is missing from Ukrainian fiction?
Before the appearance of Stanislaw Lem (and later Sapkowski), the fiction of socialist Poland remained little known outside the country. Only Lem with his exceptional works succeeded. And what about us? For a long time, Ukrainian fiction existed in the context of imperial. Even after 1991 it remained in the orbit of Russian-speaking space and worked with the appropriate narratives.
What has changed since 2014 - and what has remained the same? Did we manage to overcome the gravity of Soviet stamped plots? When do we wait for world recognition - or at least recognition within our own country? And what do we consider such a success: large circulations, film adaptations, memes on the Web?
