The Ukrainian exodus from the empire: from red imperialism to the “russkiy mir”

The participants of this panel discussion propose to address a crucial issue: Ukraine’s departure from the empire — a long and dramatic process of spiritual liberation from Russian colonial domination, of overcoming the imperial legacy that for decades has shaped Ukrainians’ perceptions, identities, and memory.

The discussion will focus on the following questions: how the concepts of “Red Imperialism” and “Postcolonial Exodus” enable us to reinterpret past and present experiences; whether history can become a tool of emancipation rather than a means of reproducing colonial patterns; and which Ukrainian myths, symbols, and narratives are essential for nation-building in the 21st century.

We invite you to a conversation about history, memory, and the future of Ukraine — a state that is today fighting for Freedom in its decisive battle against empire.
