Killed by Russia: Figures of Ukrainian Culture

In particular, Maryana Matveychuk created literary portraits of figures such as Kherson composer Yuriy Kerpatenko, who was shot by the occupiers; Irina Osadcha, director of a museum in Kupiansk; Oleksandr Kyslyuk, a translator of ancient languages from Irpin; poet Hlib Babich; and others. In 2024, other state institutions and civil society organizations joined the monitoring effort to combine their resources in preserving the memory of deceased Ukrainian cultural figures and advocating for their causes. The project “Killed by Russia: Figures of Ukrainian Culture” is curated by poet and cultural manager Olga Olkhova. Radomyr Mokryk will contribute a historical perspective on how people of culture suffered under Russian imperialism and the Soviet system in the 20th century.
