War libretto. Traumatic experience in a literary text?

Reading of the text "On the Eve of the Ongoing War or Those Who Saw Death" by Kateryna Yakovlenko and a conversation about the document and documentary in Ukrainian theater and journalism. The Ukrainian war is spoken of as the most documentary, and war is also the most performative form: news about tragedies is replaced by new ones; there are more bodies affected by the war. What is capable of conveying these changes and transformations and what is the power of performative arts? Kateryna Yakovlenko, a researcher of contemporary art and writer, a fellow of the Victoria Amelina program in 2025, will discuss this. The conversation will be moderated by the head of the visual arts department of the Ukrainian Institute, curator Anastasia Manulyak. The reading will be attended by the author, journalist, and veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war Yevhen Shybalov.
